If driving, make your way to Talloires or Angon and park in either of the towns. You can then make the short walk on foot to the starting point.

You can also drive to Verel and park there. This town is north of Cascade d’Angon, and you’ll start on a different path, which joins the main hike around two-thirds of the way up.

When you’re ready to start the hike, head to the starting point below, which is around a 15-minute walk from Talloires.

Otherwise, stay on the bus until Angon and you’ll have a five-minute walk back to the start point.

Then, take the first left onto Chemin Rural d’Angon à la Pirraz. It’s a stone path with a small sign.

The hike to Cascade d’Angon

Once you turn onto Chemin Rural d’Angon à la Pirraz, the path to the top of Cascade d’Angon is straightforward. There is one turn off, where the route from Verel joins the main path, but it’s signposted and you should carry on straight.

While the path is not difficult to navigate, it is moderately steep – the elevation gain up to Cascade d’Angon is around 300m over 1.3km. With that in mind, it will naturally take much longer to ascend than descend, and the 3km round trip will take around 2 hours, potentially longer.

At the summit

Once you near the top of the Cascade d’Angon hike, a path with railings appears so you can make your way to the waterfalls. The path passes under some rock faces and is steep at points. It’s not difficult, but keep in mind that the path can get slippery sometimes with water from the falls.

You’ll pass under a smaller waterfall, as well as some beautiful viewpoints of Lake Annecy below, before you reach the viewing platform for the main waterfall.

When you’re finished at the summit, follow the same path all the way back to the bottom!

Tips for hiking Cascade d’Angon

Cascade d’Angon is considered an easy hike, meaning you don’t need any specialist equipment or experience. Here are a few top tips that may help you on the way.

Take care at the top of the hike

At the top of Cascade d’Angon, take care along the railed path. There are steeper areas, with rocks to scramble, and you may have to duck under some rock faces. Additionally, the path sometimes gets wet and slippery thanks to the force from the waterfall.

It’s still easily navigated as long as you hold onto the railings and ropes, take your time, and watch your step. Take extra care with children or anyone with reduced mobility.

Wear appropriate shoes and clothing

When it comes to shoes, trainers are fine for the hike, as long as they have decent grip. Hiking shoes or boots would also work well.

Clothing-wise, my top tip is just to make sure your outfit is comfortable. You don’t need to be in a full hiking outfit (I did the hike in jeans), but you’ll need to be able to move around in your clothes.
